Services: The Inyo County Free Library has 6 library branches in the county. There are 4 branches in the Owens Valley in Bishop, Big Pine, Independence (Central Library), and Lone Pine. There are 2 branches in and around Death Valley National Park, one located near the National Park staff area, and the other in Tecopa Hot Springs. The library collection contains over 130,000 items, books, audio, and video, which can be discovered through our catalog.  This collection is also supplemented through our e-services with collections of e-books, downloadable audiobooks, e-magazines, and streaming video.  Public internet computers are available at all of the library branches.

Services: A Little Free Library is a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. They function on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or two from a little library, try to bring some to share to that same library, or another in your area, when you can. Services: Bishop Indian Head Start provides a safe, healthy, and nurturing preschool environment designed to support children’s school readiness and overall development. Services: This outdoor early learning program provides nature-based education for children ages 3 and up in a supportive, child-centered environment. Services: Tribal Child Care Development Fund Program ensures that children and families in Tribal communities have the child care services that best meet their needs. The CCDF program is a federal block grant to help increase the availability, affordability and quality of child care services. CCDF Program supports low-income families and those transitioning from public assistance in obtaining child care services so they may work, attend school or participate in educational training. Tribal families can choose from many types of child care services like Tribal and state-licensed day care, licensed-exempt family child care providers, and more. ELigibility is based on Tribal membership, income, children ages 0 through 12, and applicant must be a student or work a minimum of 25 hours per week. Services: First 5 Inyo County provides family support services for families in Inyo County with children ages 0 to 5. These services include diaper assistance, home visiting, parenting education, caregiver support, and child development resources. Families may receive items and support such as diapers and wipes, parenting guidance, developmental screenings, educational materials, and referrals to community resources.

• Diaper Depot: Free diapers and wipes for eligible families with children newborn–size 5 (monthly pickup available, see locations below in Kid Supplies).
• Home Visiting: Free support for pregnant individuals and families with children under age 5, including parenting support, screenings, activities, and resources.

Services: The Inyo County Home Visiting Program provides support to pregnant individuals and families in Inyo County with children under age 5. Services include prenatal and postpartum support, breastfeeding assistance, child development and maternal mental health screenings, parenting education, and referrals to community resources. Services: Wild Iris Advocates are available 24 hours a day to respond to sexual assault and domestic violence crises. Call or text our hotline at 1-877-873-7385 to connect with someone immediately. Both offices in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes are open for walk-in or scheduled appointments Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. When you call, you will be connected with a trained counselor who will listen and provide support. All calls are confidential and you can choose to remain anonymous. Every situtation is different. Crisis counselors may ask you if you are currently in a safe place to talk and how they can provide the support you need. Crisis counselors will discuss your situation and your options with you, and support the decisions you make for yourself and your family. They can provide:

• Emergency Shelter: available for individuals fleeing unsafe situations
• Safety planning: trained peer counselors are available to assist in safety planning and provide you with valuable information to consider when you are in a dangerous situation, or are planning to leave an abusive relationship.
• Information & Referrals: peer counselors can help you locate community programs and resources that may benefit you during your times of need.
• Advocacy & Accompaniment: Wild Iris peer counselors can provide support during your time of crisis. At your request, a counselor can attend court dates, or appropriate appointments such as medical, social services, mental health, etc.
• Emergency Food & Clothing: Emergency food and clothing are available for clients who are in need due to violence and abuse.
• Therapy Services: Individual and family therapy services for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.
